Our client desired a custom radius bar with the feel of an old Irish pub. This would become an area for the gathering of family and entertaining guests. We set about designing the bar with the help of Brooks Brothers Cabinetry.

Seating for five with elbow room was important as well as function and storage. The bar itself needed room for a sink, a kegerator, an under-counter fridge, and a storage cabinet. Also included would be pullout storage for tall liquor bottles, a lift for their margarita mixer, a pullout for a wastebasket, and an ice maker. With such a tall order of needs and limited space, we had to ensure the kegerator could be wheeled out for service when needed.

Brooks Brothers Cabinetry brought in their custom cabinet designer to engineer the space. Winds of Change worked directly with them to plan exactly how the electrical and plumbing would be incorporated, how the details and shadow lines of the soffit would come together, and ensure that the final design would fit in the allotted space. Many site visits were made to collaborate information and verify dimensions.

The classic look of a raised panel door with recessed drawer fronts was the order. Cherry for its rich beauty of grain was chosen for the wood. The bar top itself is of cherry veneer with a custom-made solid cherry radius bar rail. The outside of the bar is faced with matching raised panels for a finished look. No bar would be complete without a brass foot rail.

In the back bar, we incorporated bronzed mirrors for an aged effect. Wavering glass doors on the upper cabinets with in-cabinet lighting accentuated wine glasses and brandy snifters. Glass shelving allows for the light to bathe the entire space.

The service areas were topped with Uba Tuba granite. The dark appearance with hints of emerald and bronze showing through brought elegance to the bar top.

With the ceiling being 12’ in height we knew that leaving the ceiling open above the bar would leave it visually bare. We incorporated a radius soffit that mirrored the transom windows already in the home. This soffit was beautifully capped with a cherry lid and moldings, and 5 brass lights to identify each seating area. Flexible crown molding finished off the high details

Our client was a proud Marine aviator who flew Marine1 for presidents Reagan and Bush. The centerpiece of it all is his 3-tap tower. The taps are adorned with a hand grenade, a 20mm round, and a flight control stick from an AH-1 Cobra helicopter. The tower proudly displays his Eagle-Globe-Anchor pin, aviator wings, and his veteran wife’s jump wings. There is even a 2.75” rocket mounted over the back bar.

To Arnie & Susan, it is with the greatest appreciation for the opportunity to work with you in creating this space that has become such a focal point of your home. Here’s to many years of entertaining and enjoying!!
